Spring is the perfect reset button for your home. After months of being closed up through winter, a thorough clean not only freshens your space but also helps you catch small maintenance issues before they turn into expensive repairs. Whether you tackle it in a weekend or spread it out over a few weeks, having a plan makes all the difference.

Start by decluttering. Go room by room and remove anything you no longer use. Closets, basements, and garages tend to collect the most over the winter. If you have not used something in the past year, it is probably time to donate or toss it. Once the clutter is gone, the real cleaning becomes much easier and far more effective.

Next comes the deep clean. Open the windows, bring in fresh air, and work from top to bottom. Dust ceiling fans, vents, and light fixtures first, then wipe down walls, trim, and baseboards. Finish with floors, giving carpets a deep clean and refreshing hardwoods with a proper polish. Kitchens and bathrooms deserve extra attention. Clean out the fridge and pantry, scrub surfaces, and check for leaks or buildup you may have missed during the winter. Don't forget to clean out under and behind the fridge - they will last years longer if you keep them free of dust so they can work more efficiently and quietly. Spring is also the ideal time to knock out seasonal maintenance. Replacing filters, testing detectors, and checking for any winter damage can save you from bigger issues later. Outside, a little effort goes a long way in boosting curb appeal and protecting your home.

Inside the Home

Declutter closets, cabinets, and storage areas
Donate or dispose of unused items
Dust ceiling fans, vents, and light fixtures
Wipe down walls, doors, and baseboards
Clean windows, screens, and window tracks
Deep clean carpets and rugs
Mop and polish hard floors
Clean and organize kitchen cabinets and pantry
Wipe down countertops and backsplash
Deep clean appliances (refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher)
Scrub sinks, tubs, showers, and toilets
Clean grout and descale faucets and shower heads, re-caulk the corners and seams
Wash bedding, curtains, and other fabrics
Replace HVAC filters
Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

Outside the Home

Clean out gutters and downspouts
Inspect roof for missing shingles or damage
Power wash siding, decks, patios, and walkways
Clean and inspect windows and exterior doors
Check for cracks in foundation or walkways
Service HVAC system or schedule a tune-up
Turn on and inspect outdoor water spigots and irrigation systems
Rake yard and remove debris
Trim trees, shrubs, and overgrown landscaping away from siding
Refresh mulch and garden beds
Clean and set up outdoor furniture
Inspect fences and gates for damage
Check driveway for cracks and seal if needed

Finishing a full spring clean is not just about appearances. It creates a healthier living space, helps protect your home’s value, and sets you up for a smooth, low-maintenance season ahead. Even tackling a few items at a time can make a noticeable difference.
